mystic river is a modern tragedy. it is emotionally painful right from the beginning till the very end. there is even a play on shakespeare where laura linney who plays sean penn's jimmy's wife, is called annabeth. it has a powerpack cast. leaded by a veteran trio; sean penn as jimmy the gangster (very much like the godfather sorta figure.), kelvin bacon as sean the detective and tim robbins as dave the victim. and marcia gay harden pulling a hugely emotional front as dave's suffering wife. sean penn was amazing as usual with all that grief and intensity. tim robbins was perhaps, at his best (huuuge contrast you see in that comedy he was in with michael douglas.) with a perpetual constipated frown that showed all his confusion, frustration, anger, sadness and holding an ocean of deep dark secret inside him. the film is also rich on symbolism, ironies and parallelism.

the only downside was, i thought, a tad draggy. or maybe it was just me. but it has also got to do with the darn cinema. edward and i sinned against the non-existence of life to catch this apparent must-watch at bishan. that stupid place is under renovation so it eerily resemble the visonlane cineplex that used to be at hougang plaza. the shitehead drilling works could be heard many a times during the show. plus very unfortunately, the majority of the small number of audience happens to be ugly singaporeans, i heard the fucking mobile ringing every 15 minutes, coming from different directions. the stupidity of these numskulls are beyond any comprehension. with absoutely no proper etiquette despite living in a bloody gracious society (ahhh. who am i kidding.) fucking turn the phone to silent before the trailers even start! there are ten things (an underestimation.) i hate about ugly singaporeans. right on the top of the chart is crowned to these brainarses providing variation to the dhoby surround. i don't need it.

learn something new everyday. i learnt the word numskull during econs today.
"wake up baby. you're so totally deluded."
