Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

  • He's the Mega-mac Daddy of ecology: So Captain Planet (don't you think he looks and sound like Tom Cruise?) is making a comeback and very aptly, on Earth Day. I remember I was Wheeler, whose on-offs with that Ukraine pony-tailed blonde Linka and their contant bickering were such laughs. I even had the ring, which had little coloured filters so you can change your 'element'. So United Colors of Benetton, those Planeteers. They don't make cartoons like these anymore, don't they? Well, Captain Planet was perhaps the only environmental messiah in the cartooned world of good-versus-evil. I remember I was religiously following the moral values at the end of every episodes. Until Power Rangers came along. And did you know, Meg Ryan and Sting and Whoopi Goldberg used to lend their voices to the show?
Now you can have the theme song on your iPod.
The Power is Yours!

No it's not.

Was channel-surfing and saw Daniel Powter's Bad Day video - I actually listen to it when I'm having one - and realised Anna from The O.C starred in it. Anna Stern, the one with the flaming red lipstick. She's played by Samaire Armstrong. (pronounced Sah-mee-rah, and all the while I thought it was Sher-mai-er.)

I heart Samaire Armstrong. (i still pronouced it in my mind as Sher-mai-er!) I'm still half way through Season 2 and the DVD is collecting dust because I have yet to find the desire to continue. Maybe because her character left for Tahiti at the end of Season 1 and didn't appear on Season 2. It is afterall, a chore to watch that Misha Barton act like a robot for another season. Well, Sher-mai-er's back on 3, so woo-hoo!

Anyway in other news, Fiona Xie the U-Zap girl was at Poetry du Blanc today, which caught everybody's surprise. I thought we all acted with a huge sense of nonchalance when she walked in. Like, woah, but oh, (ohmyguanyinma it's Fiona Xie! I must tell my friends!) Ok. Well, she did speed read two poems right out of her iBook.

Maybe she will be at the next session in May. (it's on the 2nd Saturday of each month.) And maybe I won't chicken out like today and read Aimee Mann's lyrics and think it's fine.

Confessions of a couch tomato.

Alright. I watches Six Feet Under and then sprout pseudo-philosophical crap to my friends but hey, I think it is a genuinely good drama if it automatically switches me to Socrates-mode. Army has seriously turned me emptier than I already am, and getting glued to the Thrash Realm of MTV doesn't make me anymore of a thinking soldier I should be. (Their nonsensical shows doesn't provide me even with the slightest guilty pleasure, I just roll my eyes and scoff and continue to watch. Yes, I am an old fart. But I enjoy E! though.) I am able to wake up a little earlier than I feel obligated to on Sundays, always ready for The Nanny rerun marathon from 12:30 to 3PM. Dinner Time at 7pm means I can pretend I backpacked with Megan or Ian around the world on Globe-Trekker and then around Europe after that with Samantha. Most of these times I am readily not available for any social appointments whatsoever. I have no life and sadly yes, you may be aware that I am a couch-kantang, ang-mor shows only meh.

Well, I am a couch-tomato, too. I love Hong-Kong serials.
I was hooked on my mother's friend's neighbour's friend's rental collection of War and Beauty.

Basically about womenconcubines a.k.a evil creatures of China's Forbidden City and their bitching and maneuvering to gain the top spot of the emperor's love. Their playground politics are far from juvenile. And Charmaine Seah - the bona-fide girl-next-door, TVB's sweetheart and most likely canidate to be every army boys' wet dream if she had worked at MediaCorp, plays one of the queen sluts. Aside from the excellent acting playing shrewd bitches, the tour-de-force ensemble in ancient winter wear is quite a majestic sight.

Of late, I've unexpectedly caught on with the Korean Wave. I just wanted to see what the fuss was all about! Really.

So I am now a fan of Jewel In The Palace.

Bascially Kleenex Central, about a palace maid who met with Life's various difficulties like bitches for colleagues and superiors every. Single. Episode to rise above all occasions to become a sous chef and then Top Lady and then ultimately the first female physician in the ancient Korean palace. The serial also features Korean cuisine that strangely, always leave me wondering if it is any good. I mean, sometimes it looked just Fear Factorish.

For the record, Jewel is the only Korean serial that I can religiously get hooked on. I am not crazy about Korean dramas, unlike my elder sister who watches every other sappy, adopted-brother-fell-in-love-with-sister-and-then-die-of-a-terminal-disease serials. Lately there is a lame-arsed lovey-dovey drama about these rich Korean students studying in Harvard. I caught snippets of it and I swear it is ridiculously funny to see them speaking beyond-horrid English.

I swear I only caught snippets.
