The Past Is A Grosteque Animal.
(3 hours into the new year.)
I walked past the letter boxes and saw the old lady sitting on its edge. The old lady that sells packets of tissue at the kopitiam near my block laid quietly still with her head on her arms, catching a few winks before doing her rounds again. I walked past her, wondering if she didn't have to do this every night, but instead sleep at proper hours in a warm, comfortable bed.
I walked past the mama shop and the Toto poster caught my eyes. That ferris wheel thing now dons the Toto ticket; it used to be that durian.
It's wonderful to receive text messages and phone calls from friends I haven't heard from in ages.

No look-back-at-the-year-that-was. No what-i-expect-and-procrastinate-to-do-it-this-year. Except that I do want to sleep earlier.
