Gaffer tapes and Hokkien ditties.
My father told me over breakfast one morning when I came back from shoot, "This line (of job) is not suitable for you lah." At one point during the shoot I realised I've inherited not just the high forehead from my dad, but also the meek interior, slowly becoming the person I've avoided to be.
I am still avoiding. I mean, I love my father - bless his heart - but there are some of his personality which I really cannot stand, because I see it in me, too.
I can look back now and with no tinge of regret to tell you I am glad I was on this project, that true enough, I took back more than I could imagine. Sure, there were things that didn't exactly matter which demoralised me and had me all reluctant to come back the next day. And now, I've learned to be bolder, to not be afraid to ask, to understand it's work and nothing personal - all the tension were quickly forgotten when we celebrated the end of the shoot. I've understand it's no easy business, this. Perhaps the most important skill I have to learn though, is to be observant. Every little, more minute detail counts.
The 22-days marathon shoot finally wrapped on Tuesday night, and everyone on set heaved joy of relief. Towards the end of the final week of overnight shoots I've completely lost track of time, I had no idea if it was Tuesday, or Thursday. We stopped saying, 'See you tommorow!', because 5 hours later we would see each other again.
I've never smoked so much, or got so intently addicted to Red Bull in my entire life before.
Alot of us had our head shaved after the wrap, myself included, and shaven by none other than the maestro Royston Tan himself. I took it upon as a fresh new start now that shooting has wrapped, sorta like in an accidental Felicity fashion.
I am hopeful it will be symbolically for the better, and not in a Felicity-in-a-short-crop-and-ratings-dropped kinda way.

Sounds like a very tough shoot. Is 22 days considered very long? I think Sg Dreaming was shot in just under 20 days.
Btw did the two female leads shave their heads as well and what was it like working with them?
Won't miss the movie when it opens in Aug.
oh shoobs, i'm sure it was worth it! shall i be your 'date' again during the premiere? hurhurhur. oh yes, i promise to send something from amsterdam soon ;)
i heard sgdreaming was shot in about 20 days too. and i cant compare since 881 was my first feature. but my colleagues on set said it was.
ah wells, i shan't mention which one of them shaved so you've got to find out yourself in august! :)
yann and mindy are such delights to work with. they are such talented actresses, very focused and are able to emote at the snap of the finger.
did you work on sgdreaming?
hey fen! wah lao so fast book yourself already ah. hahaha.
can't wait!
Hi Shu-ming
Nope I'm not involved in Sg Dreaming. But a fren's cousin was part of the fim crew briefly and enjoyed the experience.
I met Yann once at a drama workshop. A friendly, down-to-earth gal and yeah she's one heckuva actress. My guess is Mindee's the one who kena sacrificed but I'll find out soon enuf.. haha. I hope 881 has its share of histrionics and weeping scenes. I'm a sucker for those :p
