happy halloween.

My neighbour (the wife's Anglo-Indian, husband's American) celebrates Halloween. They hung this huge Halloween banner outside their apartment (where people hang the national flag; they hung a banner of the late Pope when he died.) and decorated the entire corridor with crepe papers and pumpkinheads. They also changed the corridor light to this lovely dark amber. Considering that there is another American husband/Chinese wife (my block is like a living Benetton ad.) pairing living 4 floors above, and no one else celebrates Halloween, I wondered who are going to TrickorTreat 'em and the blank response their kids will get if they do. My Mum has sweet haws pieces (xian zha? if it rings a bell.) from Chinatown if they do drop by. (she has never heard of Halloween until my kid cousin Xavier explained to her, and promptly stocked up on the sweets.) I don't think they came down though.

I, on the other hand, celebrated Halloween by watching The Simpsons Halloween Marathon on Starworld yesterday.
